  1. In ancient times there were only few bridges on the Ballina-Bellmullet road. John Browne, who lived in Main Street Crossmolina and Charlie Anderson who lived in Massbrook Lahardane took the contract of making a bridge on the Oweboy River Crossmolina.
    Pat Caden Carrowkilleen owned the land bordering the river. The contractors asked him to sell the stones that were in his field. These stones looked like head stones but it was not known that field was a burial ground. Mr. Caden refused to sell.
    One day when Mr. Caden was at a fair in Crossmolina the contractor ordered their servants to steal the stones. The servents did so and began to cut them. Immediately
